always have been and always will
be a pick up kind of gal.
the farmer in my blood
surges with the thought of the pick up bed ...
a place to throw some wonderful junk
and the thrill of riding high
...
my daddy drove nothing but pick ups
and his daddy, too
Grandpa Ed
( just like the one here)
I learned to drive at the early age of 14 ...
... in a white
rusty dusty pick up
... out in the beans stubbles ...
four on the floor
... out in the beans stubbles ...
four on the floor
getting inside my Dad's head for a minute ...
he probably thought that was the
safest place to let a kid
get a feel for the wheel ...

in 2001 we,
mr. savvy and I,
took the plunge into the depths of
the great American dream
and bought a brand
spankin' new Ford Expedition.
big mistake ...
car payments up the waahzoo
and and and ... we lived and learned
and and and ...
I will not say we drove it into
the ground, but
close.
Finally the day came about six weeks ago or so ...
we knew that we knew that we knew
it was time.
being that I still needed a 'bed' to throw that
wonderful junk in ... I had very fussy
specs on my secret wish list ...
Out of the gate ....
we knew that we knew that we knew
we could not buy NEW ....
so the search was on for a used truck,
unlike anything or color we'd ever bought before.
yes, we were Ford folks
mineral gray was at the top of the list
a cap on the 'bed'
Dodge Ram
a little chrome
and and and ...
finally after about six weeks of scouring
the net ... there she was ... on a website we stumbled upon
May I present to you
the Grey Sleigh
the used pick up of choice for this
savvycityfarmer ...
I'll be hitting the open road
a bit more this spring ...
so if you see me curb pickn'
in your neck of the woods
... honk if you love pick ups!

She's a beauty Joy! My jeep cannot haul much at all.As soon as we are done paying this off ( a year or two down the road) I will be looking to replace our other vehicle....a car for something more suited for hauling treasures....AKA Junk around :-)

This country girl has never had a pickup. Have a cute little SUV but secretly I long for a pickup to haul treasures, and mulch, and plants. One day!
Used to have a pick up. Now I have a little SUV.

The day I turned 16, I took my drivers test in my dad's Chevy Pickup with a cap on the back. I so feared the parellel parking test, so when I aced it right off the bat, I got a little cocky. At the end of the test, the tester said he didn't know whether to fail me or give me a speeding ticket! My only defense was that it was downhill and the truck was sooooo heavy. I passed next day in my friends mother's Impala. Good times, good times.
My ex and I had a great old circa 1970's pick-up for a while. We called her "Big Blue". Drove it into the ground, my son had it for a while and then it rusted out in his buddy's back yard. Loved that old thing.
I've always been a pick up girl in my heart! ONe day, maybe one day, if I work really hard, just maybe...
There is just something about them....
Hoooonnnnnnnnnkkkkkk! that's me leaning on the horn. Wish that I wish that I wish that I had a truck. I'm sure the friends I call to come and haul curbside finds wish I had a truck too. :)

Love trucks-grew up with them-and have always owned one-
Love your blog-as much as I love ya on Pinterest:)

Hi Joy, I've always loved the pick up in the movie The Bridges of Madison County. Bench seats so you can snuggle up to the driver... Oh those seat belts, I guess it's more romantic on film. Best of luck with your new ride! Love, Penny
Oh my goodness love your post...on your blog site. We have an 98 Expedition looking to replace...and yes we want (hubby and I) something that will "haul" stuff. Thanks for your post...we too love craigslist. Blessings. Karen..from A Cape Cod Nest.
Great looking ride!! And it will perfect for hauling all of your finds!
