there's something wonderful happening in the world of design ...
the economy continues to struggle ... but as I write these words,
emails, and work inquiries keep coming in.
~families are considering their nests~
they are
design-ing
redesign-ing
re-model-ing
paint-ing
antique-ing
reclaim-ing
repurpo-sing
creat-ing outdoor spaces
fluff-ing
and so on and so forth.
SO FORGE AHEAD ON A SHOE STRING ...
cut a branch and place it in your kitchen
branches are free ...
remove a cupboard door and hang a fabric curtain
paint a scheme in your bedroom or guest room
paint is the most BANG for the buck!
condsense your collection to one central location ...
that costs nothing!
even Walmart and Target sell pure white bed linens!
there's those darn branches again .. paired with a sheet
... some pallets (they can cost upwards of nothing)
oh, and lest we forget stumps ...
stumps are free
look-ee what transpired here
cattle roping
most likely from Farm and Fleet ... or a farm supply store near you
it's clear this family splurged a little, but you can SEE the thought and planning
here, can you not?
It's not over the top, but warm and inviting,
or should I say cool
and inviting!
c'mon
let's keep it real
flea market season is upon us ... most likely a bank of lockers
in somebody's booth!!
spray paint and some Home Depot stencils and you're THERE!
talk to me
tell me your shoestring stories
see ya Thursday

I love the way you think! It really doesn't take a whole lot of money to make a house a home. t.xoxo
Love this post! Thanks for the reminder that beauty is all around us and it costs little or nothing to put those touches in our homes that say "I love you" to our family and friends. xo
Great post Joy! Love all the branches featured. Great ideas. I remember buying little saucers for 24 cents to a dollar, all different floral saucers, about 6 inches across and hanging them above my kitchen windows. The plate hanger cost more than the plates! Still hanging plates these days, but have evolved to majolica--some bargain, chipped pieces and a few splurges.
Good morning, Joy. Love this post. I love for people to share ideas like this. Little hints..little tidbits..nudges in the right direction.
Beautiful photos for certain!
This is exactly how I fell in love with the country-antique-worn style! I inherited a lot of antiques from my grandfather and didn't have enough money while raising 3 kids to buy "cool" things to enhance the furniture. Soooo I started shopping at estate sales, flea markets, and yard sales and I hate to say it but I have even pulled over on the side of the road on bulk trash day to scrounge up a "savable piece"! This style is comfortable, pleasing to the eye and lets face it..when someone accidentally drops, dents, or scratches something in the house it adds character rather then ruining it :)
Love the lockers. I'm glad I found your blog. I'm a new follower with GFC and LF. I would love if you stopped by and followed back so we can stay connected. Lori

I can imagine chatting w/ you for a while, smiles... having a blast using what i already have working on a photo gallery using frames from the many many years i have collected them, what fun! it's a good warm and fuzzy feeling, don't 'cha think?
I love these inspirational photos! Isn't it fun to decorate with what we have around us? And the thrill of the hunt...my favorite ;)
have a wonderful week
I don't have any amazing shoestring stories, but little by little helps. Like the picture frames headed for the trash pile BEFORE I started blogging. They are now as of this morning painted and proudly displaying photos.

Great ideals and I love the cost. Richard from My old Historic House.
I think we all have a little cabin fever. I love to change up, take down, put up, rearrange and then clean. When the sun comes out I can see all the winter dirt that's been accumulating . thanks for the inspiration! Love, Penny
The ideas and colors in the pictures are full of wonderful ideas. Like, like, like.
I always say, those who thrift have the loveliest homes. Beautiful.
Love those lockers.
Amen!
Love your blog!

I love decorating with found treasures and on a budget! Great post :o)

Oh, you know we're on the same page with this. There's always an economical alternative. A fresh coat of paint does wonders, and "oops" rocks.
What about a french sofa or footstool someone has left for a trash pick up! I found both, years apart but love them both, The sofa still awaits a r-do! The footstool I use everyday!
Have fun and who know what you'll happen up on someday.
Thanks for sharing!

I redid our flower shop window display today. I went to the woods, cut branches, placed them in large urns, then used silk wisteria we had left from last year to cascade through the limbs, then finished by draping leftover crystal strands from a wedding. The first customer who came in after I finished commented how they loved the spring display. My boss was happy that I didnt spend a dime either!
Loved all these icy aqua blue images!'I have to say, I pinned the branches and linen awning one to save forever!
That was just dreamy!

Great post Joy.
There are a lot of places in these photos that look like great places to hang out. I especially love the unifying theme of aqua and white! The lockers? I have some of those in my attic, waiting for their turn in the workshop for a redo. I think the aqua 'console' with the white dishes is my favorite, tho.

Fabulous ideas, one and all! I like how you think, lady!

are you kidding? i've been furnishing my homes on a budget since day one, 39 years ago, lol. i chose to be a SAHM, so buying things for the house has always been low on the list. but it has taught me to be discriminating and creative, and given me the joy of the hunt and discovery.
i just recently found your blog and so enjoy it. love the photos you chose for this post. have a great day!
You're so right, a home feels more homely when it has been put together tiny bit by tiny bit, being careful with a family budget.
Love all the pictures you show, the turquoise lockers especially
x
I need something from every one of those pics!
