THRIFT'N ON A THURSDAY ...#7

all though this hasn't much to do with
thrift'n on a thursday
I thought about this subject last
evening ... and maybe just maybe some of you
have a post to share right up this alley!

KEEP THE BEST AND SHED THE REST ...

some of you are looking for ways to 'grow' your blog.
Some of the big dogs out there have two and three thousand followers and comments
up the ying yang ...

don't know 'bout y'all, I find this
 very interesting.

Some days I have fifty comments
and some days I get 6 ...

keep the best and shed the rest ...

what's a girl to do that wants to grow
her baby blog into a big girl blog?

here are some thoughts
straight from my mactop!

1) pictures, pictures, pictures ...
but not too many pictures, haha
not just any old pictures, but
clear, edited and as large as possible
blogger has a button for this

2) themes, themes and more themes ...
be cohesive/short and to the point/most of us don't have much time ...

3) interact with the reader, ask questions ...
tell your own answer to your own question

4) and speaking of telling ...
tell funny stories ... be silly once in a while
shoot from the hip, and be honest

5) join link parties ... blogs get discovered
this way!

6) blog often and for heaven's sake
keep your camera with you always.

7) please don't ask how I feel about ads
and buttons
smattered all over beautiful blogs ... did I just say that?

so now, link up if you have a post about
blog growth
and if not link up anyway!

you know the drill
no craft projects please
only the url to the post you're featuring
link back to savvycityfarmer

keep the best and shed the rest
happy blogging

It is a lot of work to get those comments. If I don't go give them, I hardly get them back. i look at some blogs and see they have hundreds and wonder how they get so many, they must spend every minute giving them out. Good luck to all of us. Richard from My Old Historic House.

Oh my gosh, why didn't you tell me you're a Mac person also, sugar?!?!

I posted a blogging tip yesterday and linked it to your blog. I have a long tutorial on my blog up at the top on Pages.

I simply can't and don't have time to comment on every blog so I'll never have a lot of followers. Also, I agree with you wholeheartedly about all your tips today. You are right on, sweetpea!

Connie

Aaaah, honey, you DO know about screenshots, don't you? You could do that without having to do a photograph. Use your Grab application....

These are great tips for those wanting to grow their blogs.

It used to be important to me to have a known blog, with lots of followers and lots of comments, but it is not as important any more.
It was something I "needed"! Something I was looking for to be a better me. To feel loved, and important.
I spent hours a day putting posts together......editing and so on.

Some happenings in life just put other things in better perspective. I now see that how many people read my blog is not what makes me someone important, special, or loved. It is my relationship with the Lord that has given me those things.

I came to a place where it was not longer a priority to me. Family and friends became more important, and they deserved more of my time than blogging did.

Don't get me wrong. I still love blogging.
I have made some wonderful friends on here. I have learned a lot, and I hope others have learned from me.

I just do not feel as 'driven' and 'needful' as I did before. It is a nice place to be.

Blessings to all as we take our journey one day at a time.

You have always been one of the "big dogs" to me! :) And I love your blog and all your tips. Your blog is always fresh and never ever boring, from the heart, fun and gorgeous. The only thing that I have to add to the tips is please....don't do too many photos. Some bloggers show photo after photo of the same thing almost. I love to visit but can't stay too long. xoxo

WOW, What a great post today. Great tips too. My lil' wee baby blog needs to grow. I'm excited if I get a comment, not sure what I would do if I had 6 or even 50 and a couple thousand followers ... even a thousand would be AMAZING. My lil' baby blog is over a year old and she needs to grow up. Thank you SO much for your info. I've been a follower for quite a bit of time now. I linked up to your party : )

It's a fine line, isn't it? Trying to please people and garner new followers and still stay true to yourself is tricky, I think. Did you ever notice though that some of the blogs that have huge followings only get a smattering of comments? I think that is interesting. xo Diana

Oh for heavens sake ALWAYS have your camera! haha I have been in a situation numerous times when I wanted a pic....and din’t have it!!

Good questions too. I am finding that joining linky parties when I have a post that mostly matches that party I do get more visits and a few times I also get comments. Most of my comments are from bloggers I read and comment on every day, its like conversation sometimes.

love your blog and keep checking back to see what you are doing. I find I am relaxing on my posts, doing what I find interesting and sharing snippets of what I'm doing. Organizing is on the top of my list, too much stuff, not enough space. I like your comments and questions about growing a blog.

Followers on my blog a growing VERY slowly and I have had to block some very unusual followers who have very unusual agendas that have nothing to do with vintage, painting, organizing, collecting home decor etc. Took awhile to figure out how to block but I've got that one in my memory bank now.

Always something new to learn.

I've never done the linky thing ... and my idea for getting more readership is to come over here and steal your 1232 followers. Anyone?

Great post Joy! I try not to worry too much about how many followers or comments I get. But I do smile when I get them.
Being gone 2 weeks I feel like I lost some, but that's ok.
Also, if I don't bring my camera I almost always regret it, so now I try to remember it every time I walk out the door, you know...keys,phone,camera, got it!

well honey if you can't figure it out no one can LOL

Your blog has always been great I mean always wonderful pictures and informationa about whats going on in your area, sales etc

glad to hear you don't like all the advetising on blogs, you know they get paid bucks for that and I have thought about it but you do need thousands of readers to profit i am sure. and I am just at 296 and thrilled with that after 1 1/2 years of blogging

tell me more about how to make my pictures larger through blogger

I think becasue there is so many great blogs people just can't get around to all the great ones like yours

also if I don't leave several comments on other blogs I never get comments back

I was ready to quit this week because this was entertainment for me since I live alone and don't have a boyfriend LOL(at my mature age, I am a widow) and only 1 single girlfriend , and she works night so we very seldon get to go anywhere together. so I got lonesome and started my blog and it really helped for 1 1/2 years but now I need real people in my life
I have met some great people blogging like you JOy

OMG I didn't mean to go on & on LOL

great post...I have a question also...how about all the blogs where you have to click "for the rest of the story"...is it just me ... but this turns me completely off...

good advice! it feels like i'm sticking my neck out, but one of my pet peeves is repeated pictures of the same thing over & over on the same post! just because it's loved by yourself doesn't mean others want to see it again & again! i'll leave a post like this...i enjoy short & to the point posts. just sayin' w/ a smile!

stick it out there!!!
I was going to say much more, but I shan't

Hi Joy, just linked up a minute ago, but wanted you to know that I linked back to you on the post. It just took me a minute.
My two cents in this is just to "be yourself" and have some good photos. thanks for the fun party!

I wish you were my neighbor. I have no idea how to get people to check out my site. Most do because i check theirs every chance I get. If it were not for Nana Diana Takes A Break....I would usually have "No " visitors. She's very good about commenting. I am a complete Dunce when it comes to computers. Smiles, Susie(She Junks)

I received this email today ... I thought it appropriate for today's topic!

"Your post struck a nerve or two with me... I am relatively new to the blog world and anxious to try it myself... anxious to make friends and to share~

The fact is, I find it hard to try and 'befriend' people that don't really care to answer back. If someone has an email address listed on their blog and asks/ invites someone to contact them, then, I think it is only polite for them to respond in return.... Be honest- for ex-'I am in the middle of the worst demolition ... can't talk now...will answer later...' That's great, but THEN why not answer later!? It is obvious that you are still functioning when we read the blog every day and at those times, it can let us know that there are reasons for the delay, but then it also lets us know... life is still OK....

OR some never answer. I just recently started to contact some bloggers and it is surprising the number that don't answer back... and yes, sometimes it is the big ones... too busy?...then pull the email link... ads are now flashing on one top blogger... she never responds to questions or comments so I really don't care to go there now. There is a fine line there I realize... just don't want to get too big-headed but if you are still blogging about all the glorious things going on, (which is GREAT! I am not a hater in that sense!) then take time to stop and answer the emails and comments too... they helped to get you there and once you have turned your back to them, those will be the ones that won't care to go out and purchase your ....)

I have come to blogs where there is no email link to connect, which I sometimes hate, but they have a comment spot on the blog... I understand that... they are being honest without saying it...'I am too busy to answer every email that I get....so just leave comment on the blog!' They never asked for the email letter so they won't be getting one and won't be hurting someone's feelings when not answering.

Thanks for the tips when I do start to blog... and luckily I have found a couple of ladies willing to share with me...and yes, they are very busy -but, they tell me ..and get back with me later. Those are the ones I want to befriend and the type of person that I want to be!

OH and another thing, be intent on keeping your word and doing what you say you are going to do...if feasibly possible-This is something that I really wanted to post... if you are doing a give away-then get back on the day you say and GIVE AWAY!, mistakes and life happens, but if you are posting and not doing what you said but instead saying, 'oh looks like I forgot...will get to it later...? strikes me and I am sure others wrong! or if you ask for ideas and thoughts, then acknowledge folks that take the time to send you those.
AND if you have a regular plan for regular posting like ...Flower of the Month, for the beginning of every month...DO IT! I emailed someone that I was missing their regular post for the beginning of the month...(not flowers something else,) The reply, yep... 'life...I will do it next month...' I and others get that ...LIFE HAPPENS! still nothing! Well, I have a zillion pics and ideas I could share! which they probably get a lot, but isn't that what they are posting-others material?! Tell people honestly, 'it isn't going to happen, sorry...' we get that!
: )
This is long...but hopefully it helps someone incl MYSELF!

Thanks for 'listening!' Maybe you or someone will share some of these thoughts down the road so others don't get 'too big' and remember their followers!
Blessings for your day!"

A concerned wanna be blogger!

Very interesting subject!

I just found you through SueBee´s blog. I have often wondered myself what it takes to be a "top blogger" and to stay on top of things year after year. Some times I think it must be exhausting finding new themes and things to talk about, to keep it interesting, so people want to come back.

Thank you for your advice. I will have them in consideration while I keep on blogging in my part of the world.

I´ll stop by again and learn more about your blog too.
